Goodbye Summer!

We had a great round of summer classes at the Rosa Maria Library. The kids came to the library for lots of great classes taught by our wonderful volunteers. These included math, science, world religions, English, French, computer skills, and art! The little ones gathered for classes as well. Here are a couple of pictures of the summer fun.

The school year just started, but our programs at the library continue. The library is open all day and we provide internet access, homework help, classes for kids, adults, and nursery kids, and of course, books! Check out our blog for Katitawa our multi-lingual (Quichua, Spanish, and English) school, to see pictures of this wonderful school setting and our progress.

Volunteer programs available at Sumak Kawsay Yachay.

Here at SKY, we have been able to accomplish many things because of the help from the many volunteers who have come from all over the world to lend a hand in what we believe is a worthwhile project.

Our volunteer program is different then most. We do not charge someone to come and work for free, and we give them a place to stay and make sure that they do not starve. We will provide breakfast at the hostal and lunch at the school with the students, Monday -Friday. Each evening at the hostal the volunteers prepare something either as a group or individully. The meals are not gourmet, but most of the time they are tasty.

For the evening meal, volunteers purchase special foods that they might be addicted to and share or not share with the other volunteers.

SKY does ask for a modest $10.00 donation per week per volunteer to help cover some of our expenses. Volunteers are responsible for all personal expenses.

Here at SKY, we want volunteers who desire to give of their time and talents, even when they may have a very limited time and or money restraints. We have had volunteers who have given us a few days of their time and have touched lives and been touched as well.

We do not however, discourage contributions in food and materials where a volunteer would like to see a particular project finished before leaving when there is not enough money in the budget to complete. For all the volunteers who have helped in this manner, we are forever grateful.
